Google Express MarketplaceWhat does the future of retail look like? When the majority of shopping moves online, our big box storefronts will disappear. The Google Express Marketplace is my adaptive re-use of a big box infrastructure, creating a destination for those abandoned stores, creating events, culture, markets, housing, night life, park space, camping, retail, and online order fulfillment in one centralized location.
Google Express is already an online shopping portal, with stores under their umbrella such as Target, Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot, Costco, and more. All of these stores could sell product at this location, storing it in the underground online fulfillment center on-site. When our shipping routes become too congested and UPS/Fedex/USPS cut their home delivery routes, this centralized location allows the safe secure storage of your order until you come and pick it up. This could also eliminate the big box retail strips. If everything is located at one centralized location, the retail-strip land could be used for other development such as housing, farmland, or return to forest. This is a one stop shop for auto repair, gas/electric fill-up, hotel and camping if you are travelling the country. Multifamily housing for workers or creators utilizing the makerspaces. Grocery and retail for your shopping needs, a skate park and playgrounds, and nightlife bars and restaurants for entertainment. |
